TEN OF THE BEST – Week 13

It honestly feels like TEN OF THE BEST is on a roll and I have been loving putting together these playlists. This week was one of the cruisier weeks to put together. I realise that the playlists are a mixed bag, which was the point coming into it, but I hope you are enjoying the vibes to date.

Check out the spotify playlist at the bottom of this post:

This week’s playlist, in no particular order:

Hosanna – Shatta Wale X Burna Boy

Let’s kick things off in Africa shall we. I absolutely love the vibe on this one, and it helps that I’m a big fan of both artists who come through with some amazing energy. Pull up this one my selectah!!!!

Loneliness – Chronixx

This tune is a winner in my book. I had a chat with a mate the other day and we marvelled at how Chronixx’s debut album has so many crossover/pop tunes. What really got me is how he managed to nail all the tunes without giving up the essence of his music. Loneliness is one of the crossover tunes on the album, and I have been hooked on it since the album came out over a month ago. Tune is produced by Rudimental, which actually surprised me a fair bit as I am more used to their DnB/dance vibes.

Ovaload – Gentleman X Sean Paul

I literally stumbled on this tune whilst lazy browsing YouTube one day, and boy am I glad that I found this song. Both artists are legends in their own right and they connected with maximum effect on this record.

Mic Jack – Big Boi X Adam Levine  X Scar X Sleepy Brown

Stumbled onto Big Boi’s most recent album by mistake and I am super stoked that I did. Anyone that knows me well knows that I am a huge Outkast fan, and Big Boi is up there with the best lyricists in my book. This tune has a funky feel which is super infectious. Press play and watch the smile grow on your face.

Here We Go – Damian Marley

I didn’t quite love this tune when I first heard it, but true to form Gongzilla didn’t miss a beat on this one. Lyrical precision must be Damian’s middle name because not many reggae/dancehall artists can consistently match this dude’s level. “I’ve been feeling like a Wednesday, surrounded by the week (weak)” my gawsh!!!!

Private Beach Party – Jo Mersa

Like his uncle Junior Gong, Jo Mersa has this vibe which sets him apart. On this song his sounding more like a Marley as well, though I prefer his rub-a-dub flows. This song will grow on you if you give it the time of day.

Ganja – Bugle X Shaggy

Vibes from 2 big time artists. Love the vibes on this one. 4:20 anyone???

Bho  – Tytan

Nice chilled tune for the lovers out there. A multi lingual tune where Tytan incorporates the 3 main languages in Zim to great effect. The hook is super catchy also, it was stuck in my mind for a significant amount of time.

Glory To The King – Iba Mahr

This tune has been bubbling under for way too long. This is a tune which has been on my radar for over a year,  and the tune refuses to fade. The riddim is also amazing, I included Keznamdi’s cut on the same riddim in the roots special (Week 8). Big riddim, massive tune. Vibes all around

Right Place – Meleku

The bro Piet (SBSC) introduced me to this artist, and I must say every tune I have checked out is on point. This one is a dancehall cut for the gyal dem. The vibe is correct and Meleku does his thing without flinching. Big tune no doubt.

Until the next time – Let’s keep it moving
