Welcome back for another edition of TEN OF THE BEST, the last few weeks have been great as they have featured some super motivated local artists who are putting in work without pulling any punches. This week, we pick up right where we left off. I hope you enjoy this one…
Check out the spotify playlist at the bottom of this post:
This week’s playlist, in no particular order:
My Story – Popcaan X Davido
Another dancehall / afro pop collaboration, and again it comes off. Both artists have, at some point in their career, been at the pinnacle of their respective genres and the combination is crazy. Big tune, replay value on a hundred.
One Wine – Machel Montano X Sean Paul X Major Lazer
Major Lazer has been extremely busy of late, and on this tune they come up trumps with this big cross over soca tune. I say soca, but it’s really tricky to classify this tune as it has a few different sounds infused, and also has the signature Major Lazer bass drop. Machel Montano and Sean Paul do their thing on the vocals. Again, Big Tune!
Criminal – Lutan Fyah X Turbulence
Somehow this tune missed my radar until now, I have to say that I am super glad to have been freed from the rock I have been sleeping under. The vibe on this tune is just crazy, and the combination of Turbulence and Lutan Fyah is just perfect.
Winna – Kelissa X Chronixx
Absolutely amazing tune from Kelissa and Chronixx. Lately, Chronixx has been on a crazy cross over vibe and this tune is no different. The energy on this song is super infectious, and the message is an uplifting one. I will be honest with you, this song had to grow on me but once it did it has been stuck on repeat.
Chance – Guilty Beatz X Mr Eazi
Laid back tune from Mr Eazi alongside Guilty Beatz. I can see this song on a top 40 playlist somewhere, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Mr Eazi has a knack for coming up some really pop melodies, but he always nails his delivery so it is difficult to grudge the guy. Nice tune no less
Bad Boys – Stormzy X J Hus X Ghetts
This tune has been stuck on my playlist for a while now, actually the Stormzy album has been in heavy rotation. On this tune he enlists J Hus and Ghetts who bring some vibes with their contributions. This song is a pure head banger.
Up Riddim Medley – Heavy Roots X Million Stylez X Shaggy X Rayvon
It not very common for producers to release riddim medleys as actual stand along songs, but in this case Heavy Roots did it to great effect. I love each song on this riddim, but the Shaggy cut is just on another level.
Its A Pity – IamStylezMusic
A tune from an artist I knew absolutely nothing about until just a few weeks ago, and you know I have been soaking in his tunes. If you are an album person, check out his album “Back to My Roots”, it’s not a bad offering at all.
Thixo – L Tido X AKA X Yanga
After last week’s playlist I have found myself listening to South African hip-hop a bit more than usual. This tune has a nice sound to it. Check it out…
Belong – Nasty_C X Buffalo Souljah
Another South African hip hop tune, but in this instance Nasty_C gets assistance from Zimbabwean reggae/dancehall artist Buffalo Souljah aka Buff. The vibe on this tune is crazy to say the least, both artists put a really good foot forward. VIBES!
Another week, another playlist. See you all next week!
